Social offerings –places for people to meet each other and the feeling that people in the community care about each other– are found to be the #1 key driver to community attachment. Communities with increased community attachment experience increased local economic growth (2010, Soul of the Community Report).
Why School Attachment?
Youth that feel connected to school have better academic outcomes, better school attendance, higher academic performance, and higher school completion rates (Engaging Schools: Fostering High School Students’ Motivation to Learn, National Research Council, Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, 2004.) Belonging to a positive peer group and adult support are factors that increase school connectedness (CDC Fostering School Connectedness Overview).
